Comet School Bus Drive

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well! You are receiving this email because of your previous and ongoing support of Comet House. I appreciate everything that each one of you has done to support the children at Comet. We would not be where we are today without all of you!

Comet House School now has 80 students with classes from daycare through third grade along with a special need class and adding a new grade every year. Half of our students are on scholarship. These students come from very needy families in our community. We are so happy that Comet has grown with your support, and we are able to serve so many children.

One huge and urgent need that we currently have at Comet is a school bus. Some of our students do walk to school but many of our students live too far to walk. The school bus is critical to our operations at Comet. If we did not have a school bus, the paying students would have to transfer to other schools. This would severely impact our ability to educate the less fortunate kids because the paying students help offset the costs of the scholarship kids. Also, if we did not have a school bus, many of our scholarship kids would not be able to attend school at all because their families would not be able to afford to pay school fees at another school. One of our third grade students, Beth, is a good example of this.

They live approximately 4 miles from Comet, so it would be almost impossible for her to walk to school every day. Beth has 5 siblings. 3 of the 5 siblings have never been to school because they cannot afford it. The only way that Beth is able to attend school is through our scholarship program at Comet. If we did not have a school bus, kids like Beth would not have access to education.

We do currently have a school bus but its in very bad condition. Some of the seats are falling apart, there is no window on the driver’s side, but the worst part is that the bus is in the garage almost every week. These repairs are very costly, and we fear that one day the bus will be beyond repair. A decent school bus would cost us approximately $70,000 for a gently used with a capacity of 50. We hope that we could sell our current bus for around $10,000, so we need $60,000. A generous donor has already offered $15,000 in matching funds. Please consider donating to our school bus fund so that we can continue breaking generational poverty cycles through education. Please also consider forwarding this request to your friends and family.

Thank you for all your support!

Sincerely,

Fredrick Gituku
